Thorns is on target at the World Darts Championship
15 Jan 2010
Thorns Group lined up alongside many of the biggest names in sport as it supplied furniture and catering equipment to the Ladbrokes.com
World Darts Championship.
Thorns’ equipment, which was used extensively across the players’ and VIP areas, included stunning black Champagne flutes, its elegant Mascagni range of cutlery and highly versatile trestle tables. The group also provided kitchen items including electric carvery units.
The 2010 event marked the second year that Thorns had provided equipment to the championship and also built upon the group’s longstanding, successful relationship with Alexandra Palace.
Thorns Group Account Manager Darren Jackson said: “From soccer to the Six Nations, and from rugby to rowing, Thorns has been a key player at the UK’s major sporting events. With millions of people watching the World Darts Championship we were delighted to add another high-profile fixture to our long list of successes.”
The championship – organised by the Professional Darts Corporation and offering total prize money of more than £1m – attracted top players from across the globe. As former winners such as Dennis Priestley and John Part fell by the wayside, the world crown was eventually claimed by world number one Phil Taylor, who secured the title for a remarkable 15th time.
The Stoke-born player secured the title after a thrilling 7-3 victory in the final over Australia’s Simon Whitlock.
The World Darts Championship further strengthens Thorns’ sporting credentials. The group, which operates out of offices in London, Manchester and Birmingham, has previously supplied furniture and equipment to events as diverse as international Test cricket, England football internationals, rugby’s Six Nations, Henley Royal Regatta and horseracing’s Grand National and Epsom Derby.
