Thorns’ equipment to sparkle at the Spirit of London Awards
07 Nov 2009
Thorns Group will be working alongside the stars later this month as it supplies equipment to the inspirational new Spirit of London Awards.
The group’s stock will be used across Alexandra Palace, which plays host to the lavish black-tie event on November 27 in recognising young people who are “a credit to the local communities” of the capital.
The awards are the brainchild of the Damilola Taylor Trust, working in conjunction with London Mayor Boris Johnson and the city’s 33 boroughs. They will recognise “Young Heroes” aged between five and 16, “Community Champions” aged between 16 and 25 and other achievers such as those from sport, music, education and the Arts.
The initiative’s high-profile judging panel is drawn from all walks of life, with contributors who include Home Secretary Alan Johnson, singing star Leona Lewis, decathlete Daley Thompson and Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand.
Thorns Group – a leading independent supplier of furniture and catering equipment to the events, exhibitions, conference and weddings sectors – will provide the awards ceremony with thousands of individual items. These will include its stylish ‘Perception’ range of glassware, its striking ‘Mascagni’ silverware and items from its distinctive ranges of square and rectangular china. The group is also providing Alexandra Palace with a selection of back-of-house equipment such as tables and hot cupboards.
Thorns Group Account Manager Darren Jackson said: “The Spirit of London Awards mark a fantastic new initiative to recognise the achievements of young people from all walks of life. Thorns Group is proud to be part of this wonderful event through the supply of equipment to Alexandra Palace. We wish the ceremony every success.”
The Spirit of London Awards promise to be a star-studded affair, with hosts Lemar and Brooke Kinsella due to be joined by performers including Mercury Music Prize victor Speech Debelle, Britain’s Got Talent stars Diversity and X Factor winner Alexandra Burke.
The glittering assignment marks the continuation of a strong working relationship between Thorns Group and Alexandra Palace. Thorns has been a longstanding supplier to the location, with recent contracts that have included the supply of furniture to the annual Firework Display and German Bier Festival.
