Thorns rocks to 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards success

Thorns Group joined the elite names of rock and pop as it supplied furniture and catering equipment to the glittering 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards.The company’s stock – ranging from champagne glasses to heavy kitchen equipment – was transported to the Echo Arena Liverpool in Liverpool as Europe’s most prestigious live music award show headed to British soil for the third time in its 15-year history.
Thorns’ winning performance came as some of the world’s greatest music stars gathered in front of a global television audience in over 40 countries.
Stars performing at the ceremony on November 6 included Beyoncé, P!nk, Duffy, The Ting Tings, Estelle, Kid Rock, Kanye West, Estelle and The Killers. There was also a stunning return by Take That, who had performed at the very first MTV Europe Music Awards, in 1994 beside Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate.
The 2008 gathering – which also boasted top international stars such as Leona Lewis and Anastacia – was hosted by California-born chart-topper Katy Perry. She put in a stunning performance as the cream of the music world battled for honours in 11 categories including Album Of The Year, Headliner, Most Addictive Track, New Act and Ultimate Urban.
But while the music industry’s finest wowed the crowds, Thorns Group’s equipment was enjoying a starring role of its own at locations across the arena. Items in use behind the scenes included kitchen equipment such as turbo ovens and hot cupboards, with other items ranging from trestle tables to bar equipment and from serving bowls to stylish black linens. Thorns, which operates from offices in London, Manchester and Birmingham, also provided a wide selection of glassware including champagne flutes, tumblers and wine goblets.
Thorns’ Group Sales Director Clair Whitecross said: “Whether they’re being hosted in Munich or Milan, Lisbon or Liverpool, the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards are a truly glittering occasion. Having previously supplied equipment to a succession of major award ceremonies, Thorns Group was thrilled to play its part in MTV latest spectacular.”
