Thorns shows its sporting prowess
29 May 2007
Thorns Group is facing a hectic summer season after being signed up to provide furniture and equipment to a succession of high-profile sporting fixtures.
The group – the country’s leading independent supplier to the events, exhibitions, conference and weddings sectors – will be playing a pivotal role at many of the UK’s premier sporting and hospitality events including the Stella Artois Tennis Championships, Royal Ascot, Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships, Henley Royal Regatta and the British F1 Grand Prix.
These latest high-profile assignments follow hot on the heels of the group’s work in earlier months at the John Smith’s Grand National and a string of rugby highlights at Twickenham including RBS Six Nations ties against Scotland, Italy and France as well as the Guinness Premiership Final, Heineken Cup Final and Emirates Airline London Sevens competition.
The group, which operates from offices in London, Manchester and Birmingham via Thorns Furniture and Catering Hire, Camden Exhibition Services and Classic Technical Services, prides itself on being able to meet every furniture and catering equipment requirement, whether clients are seeking tables, chairs, office furniture and bespoke furnishings or the finest china, cutlery, silverware, glassware and linen. It also offers services such as designer floral arrangements, electrical fittings and power supplies, plasma screens, carpeting and specialist flooring.
“We’re delighted to be once again playing such a crucial role in helping to ensure the pinnacle of Britain’s sporting fixtures are a resounding success,” explains Thorns Group’s Sales Director Clair Whitecross.
“Our working relationships with many of the high-profile summertime events date back a number of years and are largely thanks to our extensive range of stock as well as our expertise and ability to offer innovative solutions to our customers’ specific hospitality requirements.”
According to Clair, popular items that are in particular demand this summer include the group’s new teak and aluminium range of tables and chairs. The tables feature an aluminium pedestal with a teak top. Other highly-sought-after stock includes items from the group’s extensive bistro range as well as the traditional wooden garden furniture.
Hundreds of sets of Thorns’ garden furniture will be in use at Silverstone for the British F1 Grand Prix on 8 July and throughout Royal Ascot, which takes place between 19-23 June.
Meanwhile, thousands of chairs, hundreds of tables and numerous bars will be used to furnish the interior hospitality areas at the Stella Artois Tennis Championships (11-17 June) and Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships (25 June – 8 July) as well as Royal Ascot.
This summer’s assignments will also involve the supply of large quantities of furniture and catering equipment to the prestigious Phyllis Court Club, which is due to play host to more than 2,000 people a day during Henley Royal Regatta (4-8 July).
All of Thorns Group’s offices will be involved with the summer events, although the main co-ordination will be carried out by the company’s London head office.
