Thorns Group scores as England's footballers celebrate

England’s footballers weren’t the only ones celebrating victory in their final World Cup qualifying match against Poland – Thorns Group was also producing a winning performance.

Thorns Group – a leading supplier of furniture, equipment and expertise to the events, exhibitions and conference sectors – provided a wide range of items for more than 1,500 hospitality guests at Old Trafford, where huge crowds watched England’s 2-1 victory.

The equipment was used in four different hospitality areas at the stadium – the Red Café, the International West Stand, the stadium’s museum and a marquee area. Individual items provided by Thorns Group included china, glassware and cutlery.

Clair Whitecross, Thorns Group’s Regional Director, said: “Thorns Group has been a regular supplier to many of the UK’s top sporting events. We were proud to be invited to join the team behind the scenes as Old Trafford hosted the England football team’s final qualifier for the 2006 World Cup.”

The contract at Old Trafford continued a long sporting tradition for Thorns Group. The firm’s equipment has been used at a vast array of top events during recent months, ranging from cricket at Lords to the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships, from the Goodwood Festival of Speed to horse racing’s Cheltenham Festival, and from the World Rowing Cup to the World MotoGP at Donington Park.

The group has also provided its bespoke furnishing service to a number of sporting events over the years, for example supplying furnishings and fabrics to match corporate sponsors’ colour schemes at events such as The Open golf championships.
