Thorns Group on hand for stunning Goodwood Revival

15 Sep 2005

Thorns Group will be lending its support as thousands of motor racing enthusiasts head back in time at the eighth Goodwood Revival.

The company, a leading supplier of equipment and expertise to the events, exhibitions and conference sectors, is to provide furniture across the famous Goodwood Motor Circuit in Sussex for the event, which takes place between September 16 and 18.

The contract continues a long-established relationship between Thorns Group and the Goodwood Revival, which is an historic race meeting featuring the kinds of cars and motorcycles that competed at the racetrack during its heyday in the 1940s, 50s and 60s.

As well as boasting golden-age Grand Prix cars, sports and GT vehicles and historic saloon cars, the event also attracts an enthusiastic crowd of spectators who traditionally dress in the fashions of yesteryear.

Thorns Group’s furniture and equipment will be used across the site of the Goodwood Revival including locations such as hospitality areas, organisers’ offices, kitchens and lounge suites.

Individual ranges of equipment to be supplied will include cane lounge furniture, high-backed banqueting chairs, natural wood dining chairs, bar furniture, Chesterfield sofas, trestle tables and back-of-house kitchen equipment.

Thorns Group Account Manager Craig Hammond said: “Thorns Group has been a long-time supplier to the Goodwood Revival but the past couple of years have seen a sizeable increase in the amount of furniture we provide to the event. We’re looking forward to being among the suppliers at Goodwood this year for one of the best family events of the summer.”

The Goodwood Revival is billed as the only sporting event in the world that is set entirely to a period theme. Reflecting the glamour and excitement of motor racing of yesteryear, the majority of visitors dress in clothing from the 1940s, 50s and 60s. No modern vehicles are permitted within the circuit perimeter during the event, while the historical mood is also evoked by attractions that include 1950s band music – and fish and chips wrapped in paper styled on a 1950s newspaper.

The event features a succession of exciting races involving vehicles such as World Championship sports cars, closed-cockpit GT cars and rear-engined Formula Juniors.
