Birmingham move continues expansion for Thorns Group

Thorns Group has relocated its Midlands operation to new, larger premises in Birmingham.

The move to new offices and warehousing in Portland Street, Aston, doubles the amount of space available to the unit – and brings the Midlands operation of the events and exhibitions equipment supplier under a single roof for the first time.

It also completes a period of growth for Thorns Group, building on the relocation and expansion of its other offices – in London and Manchester – during the past 20 months.

The Midlands unit was established by Thorns Group in 2001 following the takeover of Birmingham-based catering equipment company Central Hire. Extensive investment from Thorns – and ongoing additions to its stock – mean that the operation had outgrown its previous premises, which were divided between three different locations in Hockley.

The new premises in Aston provide staff with 11,000 sq ft of floor space, offering additional offices and warehousing.

Thorns Group, which has been active in the UK for more than half a century, supplies to a number of the Midlands’ leading venues via its Birmingham office. Furniture and equipment is regularly used at Birmingham’s NEC and ICC, while the unit was recently appointed preferred supplier to the International Centre at Telford.

In common with the group’s other offices in London and Manchester, Thorns’ Birmingham operation continues to supply furniture and equipment to a wide range of other events, including private parties and corporate hospitality functions.
